Youth Librarian Position
Library Assistant III/Youth Librarian at Glencoe Public Library
Job Description: Shelves books and materials to their proper location, performs basics of check-in and check-out, requesting materials, and registration of library cards, responds to patron inquiries and assists in locating reference materials, prepares library for opening and closing and performs related work as apparent or assigned. Plan and implement children’s programming (i.e. storytimes, summer reading programs, community outreach, etc). Provides staff and library work direction in the absence of supervisor.
Qualifications: Requires high school diploma and an understanding of library organization and services. Librarians must be able to interact with the wide range of patrons in a courteous and effective manner. Strong communication skills and ability to plan, implement, and promote specialized events, activities, and programs. Ability to operate office and library equipment such as photocopier, printer, computers with Internet and Microsoft Office is needed. Loves working with kids of all ages, being a reader, and library user is preferred.
Physical Requirements: Requires walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and light lifting up to 25 lbs., feeling, grasping, talking, hearing, and seeing.
Hours: 25-29 hours a week (day times or evenings 4-7 and Saturdays). Additional substituting as needed.
